All of the nation’s police forces will be participating in the upcoming National Speeds Day, in an effort to clamp down on dangerous driving…

National Speeds Day

Police forces across the country are preparing to participate in National Speeds Day. Some 43 police forces in England and Wales, in addition to those in Scotland and Northern Ireland, will be using the day to highlight the importance of speed limit compliance.

The day itself is a part of the broader ‘Every Day Without a Road Death’ campaign. This will be taking place between September 13th and 17th. In addition to planned road safety activities, three EV vehicles will be taking part in a challenge to travel the length of the country using the smallest amount of charge. On their way, their drivers will highlight safe road planning and appropriate ways to respond to post-crash scenarios. They’ll also be engaging with community speed watch groups and visiting the depots of large commercial fleets; including those of the Royal Mail and Waitrose.

Zero Road Deaths

This year’s National Speeds Day is a part of Operation Edward, being conducted by RoadSafe. Adrian Walsh, a director for the business, commented on the initiative. He said, “Project Edward is about all road users, road authorities and emergency services joining forces with the aim of zero road deaths. Our road trips will be stopping at multiple locations each day to share exciting content, knowledge, interviews and stories all linked to keeping those who drive for work safe”.

Walsh continued, “we will be looking at safer drivers, safer vehicles, safer journeys and driver wellbeing as well as how best to manage those who drive for work in order to reduce risk, control costs and improve efficiency. Our aim is to provide a platform that showcases some of the best work being done around the country”.
