Aston Martin’s upcoming ‘ultimate SUV’, the DBX707, will create around 100 new jobs at the firm’s Welsh factory…
New Jobs at Aston Martin
Aston Martin has announced that it’ll be recruiting for 100 new jobs at its facility in St Athan, South Wales. Specifically, they’ll concern the DBX707 SUV; which the luxury automaker has described as the world’s most powerful luxury SUV. In order to meet rising demand for the model, the firm requires are larger pool of technicians.
The St Athan facility was first announced back in 2016, and currently employs around 600 people. This will rise to 750 people once the facility is working at full capacity. The DBX707, which will become the firm’s flagship SUV, is essentially a modified DBX; complete with 707hp and 663lb ft of torque. It boasts a top speed of 193mph and will manage 0 – 62 in just 3.3 seconds.
The ‘Ultimate SUV’?
Tobias Moers, CEO of Aston Martin Lagonda, commented on the successful launch of the DBX707. He said, “as we ramp-up production of DBX707, we are delighted to have the opportunity to increase our team at St Athan and create more employment opportunities for the local community”.
He added, “our DBX SUV is the first Welsh-built production car for nearly 50 years and these new positions are an opportunity to join a team delivering our truly incredible new DBX707 derivative, which is setting new benchmarks for performance in the luxury segment”.
The successful launch is good news for Aston Martin, which has been struggling financially for a number of years. It’ll also be welcome news in Wales, where the car sector is still recovering from the planned closure of Ford’s plant in Bridgend.
