Fleets are being warned that they may struggle to book MOTs between August and November due to a surge of bookings…

A Spike in MOTs

Fleets could face lengthy delays in books MOTs between August and November this year. That’s according to BookMyGarage.com. Having submitted a Freedom of Information request to the DVSA, it discovered that MOT bookings will rise by 23% over the coming months. This means that millions of vehicles will be booked in for the test, making it holder to book a slot. For fleets with many vehicles, this will potentially cause serious problems.

September is expected to be the busiest month, with some 770,000 vehicles needing to undergo the test. Worryingly, 10 million vehicles are thought to need the test in September, October and November. As a consequence, BookMyGarage.com is urging fleets to get their MOTs booked sooner rather than later.

‘The Die has been Cast’

Karen Rotberg, co-founder of BookMyGarage.com, said “we anticipated the dip in demand for MOTs earlier this year, and looking at the data again, the die has been cast and we will see a significant wave of vehicles requiring an MOT from August onwards. While September will likely be the busiest month, once we are into August, garages will be getting busy and are likely to put up prices – if drivers book now, however, they could lock-in that price”.

She continued, “motorists should either aim to get their MOT booked in ahead of when it is required by one month or simply book their MOT in advance. With the harsh fines and possible penalty points at stake, it is crucial to avoid letting MOTs expire”.
