Fleets are being urged to adopt forward planning strategies in order to beat vehicle and parts shortages in the UK…

Plan Ahead to Beat Shortages

The automotive industry is facing global shortages of vehicles and associated parts; with the semiconductor shortage showing no signs of going away anytime soon. Some fleets are having to wait in excess of six to twelve months in order to get their hands on their desired vehicles. Meanwhile, others are struggling to source parts and components required to keep their current fleets operational.

As a consequence of all this, fleets are being urged to adopt forward planning, it order to get around shortages and to minimise the damage caused by lengthy waiting times. Paul Hyne, commercial director at Arval UK, commented on the situation. He said, “the impact of the pandemic is here to stay for the foreseeable future – and our industry needs to change to stay ahead of the situation”.

Keeping on Top of Things

Arval UK is taking a number of steps itself in order to deal with ongoing shortages. Hyne explained, “we’re working tirelessly behind the scenes using our strong relationships with manufacturers and supply partners to make sure that our customers’ vehicle orders, and service, maintenance and repair needs are met”.

He added, “we’re working with manufacturers to secure bulk orders of vehicle stock, so if we know a customer needs a particular type of vehicle or there are a number coming up for a service, MOT or repair, we will proactively work with our supply chain to ensure that there is limited downtime or that a rental vehicle is available where possible”.
