Jaguar Land Rover has shed light on a new plan to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030…

Jaguar Land Rover to Slash Emissions

Land Rover has announced a new plan to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions; keeping it compliant with the 2015 Paris Agreement. This means it’ll be reducing operational emissions by 46% over the next eight years. Moreover, emissions produced via value chains will be reduced, on average, by 56%.

The automaker is also planning on reducing the lifetime emissions of its vehicles by 60%. This will be possible because of the electrification of its future line-up. Land Rover EV models will become available in 2024. An electric version for every model will be available by the end of the decade, too.

Notably, JLR’s targets have been approved by the international Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The precise details of the company’s plans aren’t yet known. However, in a statement the company said that it will “decarbonise across design and materials, manufacturing operations, supply chain, electrification, battery strategy, circular economy processes, and up to end-of-life treatment”.

‘Ambition to Action’

As a part of its strategy to reduce its environmental impact, Land Rover has appointed Rossella Cardone to the newly created role of Director and Head of Sustainability.

Commenting on the firm’s plans, Rossella said “sustainability sits at the core of our Reimagine strategy; with the aim to achieve net carbon zero by 2039, as the creator of the world’s most desirable modern luxury vehicles. As we move from climate ambition into action, we are now embedding sustainability into the Jaguar Land Rover DNA to minimise our carbon footprint across our value chain”.

She added, “science-based targets tell us how much and how quickly we need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions; as well as keeping stakeholders informed about our progress”.
