Book your MOTs

Research conducted by AA Approved Garages suggests that over ten million cars and vans in the UK are due to fail their MOTs. This, it seems, is largely a product of disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent MOT extension issued by the Government.

A recent Freedom of Information request, submitted by BookMyGarage.com, revealed that the number of vehicles due an MOT will rise sharply by 23% in the late summer and early autumn. This means there will be a surge of MOTs being booked until they eventually subside in December.

Naturally, this development could cause a serious headache for fleets and businesses; as booking appropriate tests may become a challenge; in which case, booking early may prove vital.

‘Frantic Fall’

Penny Stoolman, managing director of AA Approved Garages, commented on the situation. She said, “with more than 10 million MOT tests due to take place across ‘Frantic Fall’, the scramble for slots could be chaotic. Drivers who have an MOT due should book early to avoid stress”.

She continued, “with household budgets stretched, drivers may be tempted to leave repairs on their car until the last possible moment or wait for the MOT to spot faults. But with colder, wetter weather due in the coming months leaving blown bulbs, torn tyres and cracked windscreens unrepaired could cause more damage to both the car and the wallet”.
