A new app, powered by artificial intelligence, is able to determine a vehicle’s external condition in just minutes…

AI Technology

A new app, driven by AI technology, aims to make checking the external condition of a car much easier. Called ‘AI Inspection’, the app is designed to speed up the process of selling a car, recycling parts or returning a leased or rented vehicle. The app’s creators also claim that it’s capable of reducing transportation costs and improving the experience of customers.

In order to use AI Inspection, users simply record images of the outside of the vehicle; these are then reviewed and inspected for damage by the artificial intelligence. Information can also be provided, in real-time, to the app’s user; ensuring that the vehicle’s state is recorded correctly, and that the AI assessment has appropriate photographic evidence.

The app has been developed by Tractable, a specialist in developing AI for visual assessment and disaster recovery. The company has worked to ensure that it’s capable of assessing millions of images of faulty vehicles and damaged exteriors; allowing it to comprehend problems as a human inspector would.

A ‘Powerful’ Tool

Jimmy Spears, head of automotive at Tractable, commented on AI Inspection’s development. He said, “with AI Inspection, we have created a powerful AI tool that is not only capable of accurately assessing the exterior condition of a vehicle’s body, but can be carried around in your smartphone. This is an immense technical achievement, putting expert-level assessment in the hands of anyone – meaning understanding a vehicle’s condition is not only more efficient, but also more transparent”.

He continued, “we already work with US insurers to improve auto claims. AI Inspection will unlock efficiencies for the broader vehicle ecosystem, where there are huge gains to be made with faster ways of performing manual tasks, with cutting-edge technology”.

AI Inspection is already available in American and Japanese markets. It’ll launch in both the UK and Europe sometime in 2022.
