Businesses Stick with Electric Vans
Some some fleets remain suspicious of the reliability of electric vans, research suggests that most eagerly embrace them after conducting trials. Arval UK, for instance, has noted that 90% of businesses that use its rental products decide to stick with the vehicles in the long-term; recognising that they comfortably complement their fleets.
Separate research conducted by Arval Mobility Observatory (AMO) found that 47% British fleets intend to adopt electric vans within the next three years. Different reasons were cited for this. Some 55% noted environmental benefits, 51% cited tax incentives and 51% mentioned total cost of ownership as key motivations. Other reasons included an improved company image, a reduced spend on fuel and able to avoid low-emission zone penalties.
‘Practical Additions to Fleets’
Glynn Hopkins, product manager at Arval UK, commented on the rising popularity of electric vans. He said, “what we are finding is that the overwhelming majority, once they get hold of the vehicle, find they are a practical addition to their operations and choose to extend the original booking. We see this very much as a vote of confidence in van electrification”.
He continued, “last year, our medium-term fleet was around 2,500 units and this year it will reach 3,800. We expect it will continue to grow significantly over the next three years to meet customer demand. Within this, we already have a strong electric van offering of Vauxhall Vivaro-e, Toyota Proace Electric and Nissan EV200 but we’re adding more as new models come to market”.
