Roads are expected to be quieter during the upcoming half-term break than usual, due to the cost-of-living crisis…
A Quiet Half-Term?
The AA believes that the upcoming half-term week will be quieter than usual, citing a combination of bad weather and the mounting cost-of-living crisis. Traffic will likely peak on Saturday, around mid-morning, as motorists head out for the usual holidays and mini-breaks.
So, whilst traffic will increase, it won’t be as significant as in previous autumns. The motoring organisation’s data suggests that, in an effort to save money, many drivers have decided to stay local, travelling shorter distances in order to save money on fuel and accommodation. Increasingly wet and windy weather will also deter some would-be holidaymakers and travellers.
Servicing still Important
Sean Sidley, AA patrol of the year, has stated that making vehicle checks is still important – even if drivers are staying closer to home during the half-term. He said, “half-term travel can be quite hectic, but we are expecting a quieter week as people look to cushion the blow from a string of higher bills whilst planning for a ‘Happy Christmas'”.
He continued, “those heading out in their cars could become complacent by not carrying out pre-journey vehicle checks. Spending five minutes checking your car over before setting off can make all the difference between making it to your destination or ending up with an avoidable and expensive repair bill”.
So, if you are heading out on a lengthy car journey over the coming week, conduct some basic checks. Check your car’s fluid levels, ensure lights are working properly and ensure that your tyres have enough tread depth.
