Rising Vehicle Repair Costs?

Whilst it’s not thought that the Russian invasion of Ukraine will have an immediate impact on vehicle repair costs, there are concerns regarding the long-term outlook. Fleet Assist, a supply-chain management business, believes the availability of parts may be negatively affected.

Vincent St Claire, Fleet Assist’s managing director, said “we are in regular dialogue with all elements of the supply chain to ensure we keep customers informed so they can consider any tactical changes required to mitigate a potential impact on drivers”.

He added, ““it is understood the main Ukrainian parts industry comprises vehicle wiring looms and gas production that supports the manufacture of semiconductors. This is going to cause issues with the supply of major components supplied to many vehicle manufacturers; which will impact new vehicle production”.

Production Woes

New vehicle production has already been affected due to the closure of Ukrainian parts manufacturers. Affected brands thus far include the likes of Volkswagen Group, Jaguar Land Rover, Stellantis and BMW. Closer to home, Mini has shut down production at its facility in Oxford due to the war. It’s not expected to reopen until Friday 18th.

The Volkswagen Group has suspended both production in Russia and exports to the country. Ford has also suspended all of its joint operations in Russia, too. The American automaker has donated $100,000 to the Global Giving Ukraine Relief Fund to provide support to displaced Ukrainians.
