Electric

Recent research has shown that by 2030 the government are aiming for at least 50 per cent, and as many as 70% of new car sales, and up to 40% of new van sales should be ultra low emission.

Fleets are adopting more Electric Vehicle’s and here’s why.

Electric fleets are more cost effective, efficient and manageable. The road for EVs has been a slow but steady growth process and according to research from JP Morgan, by 2025 at least 30% of Electric Vehicle cars will be on the road. Furthermore, by 2040 30% of fleets will be electric shown by Bloomberg New Energy Finance Ltd. The technology to manage these fleets is advancing swiftly. Fleet Management software is being brought into the market. Allowing fleets to be monitored via GPS, using real time data to finetune fleet operations and help the increase in return on investment. The ultimate goal for this technology is to maximise these assets so these fleet vehicle batteries never run out of power and vehicles are performing optimally.

Driving habits will need to be considered carefully as EVs can take up to eight hours to fully charge. Running batteries down and stranding vehicles will need to be avoided at all costs. Most EVs have route planners in their satnav identifying where charge points are available to use so planning routes ahead of time is essential to avoid any disruptions.  Nevertheless, electric vehicles have significantly lower maintenance costs which will positively impact maximising utilization, reducing overall costs.

How to meet the change to EV for Fleets.

Many Fleets are already changing their vehicles to zero emission but extra time is needed for this change due to the majority of EVs taking up to a year to order. Identify which vehicles would be the most cost effective to switch to electric equivalents in time for 2030 to then show to the industry and government that the demand has been met. Then investing in charging points to be used at drivers home and corporate locations, helping to increase the amount of charging points available. All of this will help to cut carbon emissions as fleets have been responsible for 72% of these.
