A rising number of fleets are maintaining the highest standards of safety when it comes to their vans, according to Van Excellence…

A Good Year for Van Safety

Van Excellence, a scheme led by Logistics UK, has now been in operation for nearly twelve years. Run by Logistics UK, it’s used by companies and local authorities to demonstrate a commitment to van safety via a number of tests.

Last year, a significant number of fleets managed to achieve Van Excellence recognition. These included the likes of NHS Blood and Transplant, DHL International and Wayfair. Impressively, South East Water achieved a certificate for its sixth consecutive year. It bodes well for the fleet industry, which often faces a considerable array of duty of care-related challenges. It’ll also be welcomed news for van drivers themselves, as studies have shown that many face difficult working conditions.

‘Strength to Strength’

Kevin Green, marketing and communications director at Logistics UK, commented on the scheme’s success in 2021. He said, “Logistics UK started the Van Excellence scheme in 2010 with the intention of professionalising van driving; 12 years later, we are so pleased that the scheme continues to go from strength to strength; with close to 100 certified companies now in operation. Whether a business or local authority is operating a fleet of thousands or small fleet of one or two, the need for compliance and safety remains the same”.

He continued, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors – AA, Bott, Brigade, Hertz, Lex Autolease, Quartix and TVL – for their incredible support; their input over the years has been vital to the ongoing success of the scheme”.
