Fleets Falling Behind On Net Zero
New research, conducted by Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, suggests that nearly half of British fleets aren’t preparing for a net zero future. For instance, only 53% of commercial fleets have a strategy in place. This is despite 57% of fleets acknowledging that such a strategy would help them increase the amount of business they receive.
Of the 300 fleet-decision makers that were surveyed, 34% felt that current technology is insufficient in reducing their vehicles’ environmental impact. Some 47% of respondents suggested that a lack of specialist EVs are a major factor in holding them back from formulating a proper strategy. Another 41% pointed to a perceived lack of charging infrastructure.
In addition, 56% of the decision-makers believe that their net zero aspirations will be held back by other business commitments. A further 61% said their business would require a significant cultural shift for any kind of change to be implemented.
‘A Challenging Undertaking’
Andrea Manenti, vice president north region, Bridgestone EMIA, commented on the research. She said, “transport electrification is gathering pace but establishing a management strategy for fleet decarbonisation is viewed by many as a challenging undertaking”.
She added, “not only must businesses plan for transitioning to electric vehicles, but also for optimising their operations – from maximising electric miles to ensuring effective charging, maintenance and service delivery. Data insights generated by dedicated software solutions are a critical ingredient to helping simplify this process, enabling fleets to make the right decisions at the right times”.
