Van drivers in London are losing up to two days a year simply searching for an appropriate place to park their vehicles…

Parking Woes in London

New research has shed light on the misery van drivers and tradespeople face searching for a parking space in London. Conducted by AppyParking+, it revealed that they’re losing up to two day’s worth of time simply trying to find somewhere suitable for their vehicles; which, collectively, represents a massive loss of productivity.

Overall, van drivers are spending around 12 minutes per trip looking for a suitable parking space in the capital. They’re covering an extra 2 miles per trip, too, which adds up to 211 miles annually. To make matters worse, drivers in London are being landed with more than 838,000 PCN fines a year. Which means tradespeople are having to fork out a whopping £54,470,000.

‘A Real Concern’

Dan Hubert, chief executive officer and founder of AppyWay, which is the parent company of AppyParking+, commented on the research. He said, “as van owners continue to move from job to job, parking can sometimes be a real concern, where it is not readily available or located in busy areas”.

He added, “the outcome of this time spent not only empties fuel tanks, but it empties pockets as well. Although just a small part of the bigger picture for businesses, spending 1 minute searching for parking instead of 5 minutes can make all the difference”.

For fleets, then, parking in London can be a serious source of lost time and money. Meaning that proper planning when dealing with the busy capital could make a big difference in the long-term.
